Paul Wescott, President
- A Director of the corporation and an original investor in HLI, joined HLI in these capacities in 1977. Prior to joining HLI, he was a founding partner of Drummond, Wescott & Woodsum, a Portland Maine law firm, from 1965. He holds degrees from Colby College and New York University School of Law.

David Allen, Vice President - Chief Operating Officer
- David graduated from the University of Chicago and has been employed with Howell Laboratories/Shively Labs since 1982 in a variety of positions including Purchasing Agent, Production Control, Special Projects Manager and Director of Broadcast Sales.

Martyn Gregory, Vice President
- Graduated from the University of Durham (UK) in 1981, with honors in Applied Physics and Electronics. Twenty years with the BBC (then Crown Castle Inc. after the sale), working first in AM and HF transmitter operations; moving into FM and TV; finally specializing in antenna and RF systems and heavily involved with the initial DTV antenna program in the UK. In 1999, moved to the US as Crown Castle’s broadcast engineering manager. In 2001, joined Richland Towers as Director of Broadcast and RF Systems Engineering, specializing in broadband system development and station co-location. In 2004, returned to Crown Castle as VP of Service Delivery for their mobile TV initiative, responsible for the operation and maintenance of their DVB-H based mobile media networks focused initially throughout New York City.
Martyn holds a professional license as a chartered engineer in Europe.
Bob Surette, Director of Sales Engineering
Director of Sales Engineering with Shively Labs from 1981 to the present. Bob was graduated from Lowell Technological Institute, Lowell, Massachusetts in 1973 with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He has been directly involved with design and development of broadcast antennas, filter systems and RF transmission components since 1974, as an RF Engineer for six years with the original Shively Labs in Raymond, ME and for a short period of time with Dielectric Communications.
He is currently a Senior Member of IEEE and an Associate Member of the AFCCE. He has authored a chapter on filters and combining systems for the latest edition of the CRC Electronics Handbook and for the 9th and 10th Edition of the NAB Handbook.
Adam Jones, Mechanical Engineering Manager
- Adam joined Shively Labs in 2006. He graduated from the University of Maine in 1993 with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology and completed a MBA degree at the University of Southern Maine in 2004. Adam brings over 11 years of RF mechanical design experience to Shively, having worked for Dielectric Communications in Raymond, ME for eight years and most recently for Radio Frequency Systems in Wallingford, CT. In August of 2007 he was certified as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Maine. Adam has been an active member in Subcommittee TR 14.7 (TIA/EIA-222 - Structural Standards for Steel Antenna Towers and Antenna Supporting Structures) for the last 8 years and recently initiated a new subcommittee to revise outdated EIA standards on coaxial transmission line (RS-225 and RS-259).
Sean Edwards, Test and Development Engineer
- Sean has been with Shively Labs since 1997, working in R & D and performing field service. Previously he served in the Navy as a fire control technician, specializing in missiles and radar systems, achieving the rank of 2nd Class. Before coming to Shively he worked as a lineman and headend technician for a local cable company. Currently Sean is attending classes at S.M.T.C.
Jeffrey Allen, RF Test Technician
- Jeff has been assembling, setting up and tuning Shively antenna and combiner systems since 1987.
Matt Smith, Test Technician
- Matt joined Shively Labs in 2008, bringing 12 years of telecommunications experience. He served 8 years in the Army as a network switching systems operator. He specialized in voice and data networks and encrypted line-of-sight radio transmission and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. Since his honorable discharge, Matt has worked installing PBX telephone switches for a local telephone company and five years as an installation/repair technician for Time Warner Cable.
James W. Stevens, Manufacturing Manager
- Jim joined HLI in 2004. Jim brings over 25 years of manufacturing experience with Digital Equipment Corporation, Sanmina-SCI, and Enterasys Networks. Jim has held positions in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, and Production Control. Jim has a BS from the University of Maine and holds certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) as a Project Management Professional (PMP).
Edd Forke, Regional Sales Manager
- Edd has a background in sound reinforcement for theater and is a contributing writer for Pro Audio review Magazine. In 1993 Edd started in the broadcasting industry when he took a sales position with BEXT. In 1997 Edd went to Crown Broadcast as International Sales Manager and was promoted to Broadcast Division Sales Manager. Edd joined the Shively sales team in 1998.
Joe Rohrer, Regional Sales Manager
- Joe started his engineering career at his family’s AM station and has been in the broadcasting industry since 1962. He received a degree in physics and math from the University of Wisconsin in 1969. After graduation Joe joined with two other engineers to form a contract engineering service providing services to broadcasters in Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. In 1974 Joe added an FM station to the family owned AM station and operated the AM/FM combo until the late 1980s. He left the broadcast industry briefly, returning to the industry in the mid 1990s. as a Regional Sales Manager for Shively Labs.
Angela Gillespie, Sales Manager
- Angela joined Shively Labs in 2003 and has been instrumental in the design of a number of HD Radio™ products and coaxial components. She oversees marketing and sales of Shively’s growing coaxial component product lines. She was previously employed by both Dielectric Communications and Andrew's Passive Power Division. With over 8 years' experience in both TV and FM antenna design, she is a graduate of ITT Technical Institute in San Barnardino, California and specializes in 3-D CAD design.
Sandy Taber, Executive Sales Assistant
- Sandy Taber hails from Akron, Ohio, moving to Maine in 1989. Previously she was employed by Emery Waterhouse as a sales assistant before coming to Shively in 1994. Sandy has a great head for details and is one of the last people in the world who knows how to take shorthand.
Peter Long, Pattern Range Technician
- Peter has worked at Shively for fourteen years, operating and maintaining our pattern study test range. His ecperience with the range enables him to work closely with customers, positioning Shively antennas on their towers for optimal coverage. He specializes in directional antennas to meet FCC requirements. Peter has written several software programs used to operate the range. He has studied at Northeastern University, Wentworth Institure, and Southern Maine Technical College.
Alan Plummer, Mechanical Designer
- Alan has been with us since 1985, working on both the Howell and Shively sides of the business. For a time he worked for subsidiary Microwave Techniques Inc. in the design of coaxial and waveguide components. Currently he is involved in the mechanical design/layout of FM combining systems for single and multi-station applications, and FM antenna layout design as well.
Dennis Butterfield, Mechanical Designer
- Dennis has been the principal designer for Shively Labs since 1981 and oversees the design of all our custom mounting systems and installation drawings. When Dennis isn’t discussing installation plans with antenna riggers he can be found at home in his engine and transmission shop. In addition to making cars look good and go fast, Dennis likes to spend weekends snowmobiling with his friends in some of Maine’s most remote back country.
